We focus our government lobby efforts on the following;
- Favourable bioenergy-specific policies and mandates nationally and provincially.
- A strong, rapidly-developing domestic bioenergy market.
- Implementation of Canada-wide carbon trading system.
- Economically-viable and sustainable biomass supply chains.
- Removal of regulatory barriers to bioenergy development.
- More favourable tax treatment and incentives for bioenergy and biofuels.
- Clear and simple access to bioenergy feedstocks on public lands.
- Easier, fair access to the provincial electricity grids with stronger pricing incentives.
- Biomass co-firing in power plants.
Examples of CanBio lobbying efforts:
Submission by CanBio to the Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture and Forestry. The chair of the Senate Committee subsequently addressed the CanBio Bioenergy Policy Conference in Ottawa June 16, 2010 with a strong positive message. CanBio's submission emphasized support for 5 main principles:
- CanBio supports sustainable development.
- CanBio supports bioenergy integratino with existing industries.
- CanBio supports placing a value on carbon.
- CanBio urges a modernization of standards.
- CanBio agrees on the need for greater financial incentives.
Submission by CanBio and
Maritime Bioenergy Working Group to the Province of Prince Edward
Island.
The results of this effort were reflected in the Final Report of the Environmental and Renewable Industries Committee (ERIC) to the Minister of Development and Technology of PEI, January 31, 2008.
