Mission Partners

The mission is being organized with assistance from the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) and the Canadian High Commission in Singapore, and in partnership with the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore, Energy Studies Institute of Singapore, Singapore Bio-Energy Association, and the Singapore Business Federation. The mission coincides with International Energy Week (www.siew.sg), a major annual event for the ASEAN region organized by the Singapore Energy Authority, that in 2011 brought together over 20,000 attendees from over 60 countries, including world policymakers, energy stakeholders and bio-economy leaders.

Cost (we have almost $30,000 in travel support funding)

For each participant the CanBio registration fee for administration is:

  • $3,000 for companies with >20 employees or >$10 million in revenue;
  • $1,200 for all other organizations;
  • The Wednesday tour is $150;
  • 3 pods within the Canada pavilion at the exhibition are available for $1,500 CAD each and there will be spaces to leave brochures

There are events set up specifically for our Canadian mission, many B2B networking sessions that are sponsored, and many optional International Energy Week events and forums that have separate registration fees (http://siew.sg/calendar).

  • Air travel - organized directly by mission participants
  • Accommodation - Block arranged by CanBio at the "Pan Pacific Singapore" $235 CAD/night
  • Travel Cost and Support from GOA - Travel cost is estimated at $4,450 ($5,800 with entry into 2 conference events). Associations, universities, and non-profit organizations with some non-public revenue normally receive 50-60% of expenses in travel support (max 4 organizations, 2 reps per organization), for a net cost here of $2,650. Companies will get $1,200-$2,000 per company depending on the number of participants. All support is on a first-come first-served basis, so register now.

You can register by downloading a registration form and submitting it by fax, email or post (contact details are on the form). Online registration will be made available shortly. Register early, as space on this mission is limited.

Singapore, a Leading Asian Trade and Energy Location

Singapore was one of the three initial partners of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a series of trade negotiations joined by Canada in June, 2012. The City-State has no energy resources of its own but acts a a hub for the entire ASEAN region. It is set to open a major LNG terminal in mid-2013. It also acts as a solid pathway to investment in China based on the use of English as the de-facto national language, its strong intellectual property protection system and its role as a major regional project finance centre. Singapore is one of the key petroleum refining centres of Asia, but also a major bio/renewable energy powerhouse. It is also leaning heavily towards the bioeconomy, as a means of sustaining its wealth in a low-carbon reality. In key areas such as bioenergy, waste to energy, biofuels, petro-chemicals and green buildings, Singapore's bioeconomy is actually growing faster than most OECD countries; with many trade, partnership and investment opportunities yet to be uncovered.
