At its Annual general Meeting held in Toronto on October 14, 2011, CanBio addressed the issue of corporate governance by separating the positions of Chair, President and Executive Director. The new Chair and CEO, is Christopher Rees, Managing Partner at Suthey Holler and Associates. Douglas Bradley, President of Climate Change Solutions, will retain the role of Chief Operating Officer under the single title of President.
The election of a separate Chair signals the desire to accelerate the growth and changes that are required to deal with the environmental challenges, and finite amounts of clean fossil fuels. Making the change to a more
efficient and less wasteful energy future and re-engineering towards renewable energy is taking place at a much faster pace. The Board recognizes that progress forward will not be without difficulty but what we cannot do is stand still. Time has come to take bioenergy to the next level.
The new Chair says that: “One of our first initiatives will be to reach out to partners especially those at the provincial levels in order to create a more comprehensive strategy for bioenergy development across Canada. We expect to release our new strategic vision in the spring of 2012.”
We would like to also welcome the following newly elected members to the CanBio Board of Directors.
Catherine Cobden, VP, Economics, Forest Products Association of Canada
JP Gladu, President, Aboriginal Strategy Group
Ken Shields, Chair and Chief Executive Officer, Conifex Inc.
